CR-UGV-001 / PROJECT

Uncrewed Ground Vehicle

A staged mechatronics programme to design, fabricate and integrate a reusable UGV platform, control system and demonstrable working vehicle.

In progress
1
Systems Engineering · project

Requirements & System Architecture

Define what the vehicle must do before choosing hardware.

Outcome: Approved baseline requirements and system block diagram.
2
Mechanical / Fabrication · project

Chassis & Fabrication

Design and fabricate a rigid, maintainable vehicle structure.

Outcome: A rolling chassis that carries the target payload without unacceptable deflection.
3
Mechanical / Electrical · project

Drivetrain

Select motors, gearing, wheels and drive topology from calculated requirements.

Outcome: Vehicle moves under its own power and meets the initial speed/gradient target.
4
Electrical · project

Power System

Design a safe electrical power architecture for propulsion and control electronics.

Outcome: Protected power distribution with measured current draw and runtime evidence.
5
Controls / Software · project

Control System

Build a reusable control architecture rather than a one-off remote-control circuit.

Outcome: Repeatable command of propulsion with documented interfaces and failsafe behaviour.
6
Mechatronics · project

Sensors & Navigation

Add perception and vehicle-state sensing progressively.

Outcome: Vehicle reports useful state data and demonstrates at least one sensor-assisted behaviour.
7
Networks / Controls · project

Communications & Telemetry

Create a robust operator link and useful engineering telemetry.

Outcome: Reliable command-and-telemetry link with loss-of-link safety response.
8
Systems Engineering · project

Integration, Test & Demonstration

Prove the complete vehicle against its requirements and record what should change next.

Outcome: A repeatable end-to-end demonstration with test results against baseline requirements.

Why I am building the UGV as an engineering programme

The objective is not just to finish a vehicle. It is to practise the complete chain: requirements, calculations, CAD, fabrication, electronics, controls, integration, test and engi…
